Before becoming a financial representative, Steve Mengyan was in college at Central Michigan University. He majored in financial planning and corporate finance
Steve decided on the career because of his passion for helping people understand and use their financial resources to get what they really want in life. Steve shares his thoughts about the career:
"My greatest reward has been the willingness of my best clients to go out of their way to thank me, and consider me an important part of their future. Also, by giving me referrals of their friends and families and then bugging them to meet with me, I am really able to understand how important I am to these people's lives."
"The biggest challenge is keeping a good attitude about the business every day. Not everyone immediately recognizes my values of integrity and accountability, and it's tough when I take rejection personally, especially when the individual hasn't given me a chance to prove these values."
"Early in the career, it was challenging to always work so hard to do the right thing, while some prospects still have the suspicious 'salesman' approach when working with me (especially because I am young, in most cases they knew I was relatively new in the business)."
"But along the way, I have learned I can be myself in the real world, and that people respect that."
